He put on
his wetsuit and stepped into the sea sparkling in the sunshine. His heart beat
with the excitement which the beginning of every new experience brings: the
arrival of a parcel of clothes, the sign 'Sale' and the first time you wear
that carefully chosen t-shirt.
The waves
splashed and the water enthusiastically touched him as he stepped on the
surfboard. For the next few hours, he relished his first experience of air
surfing. The time being over, he came and sat down at a quieter spot on the
cool sand. The warm sunshine played on him. At a distance, he saw a child
playing with an orange ball. The bright lights of the basketball court flashed
across his eyes, the dribbling of that ball, a lap across the court and lo! the
ball was in the hoop. He had loved every ounce of his sportsmanship. Give up my dream of playing an NBA match?
What game is my life playing with me?
The ball and the court had been his companions throughout his
college life in Bangalore. It was a part of his identity. He had even given up
his job in the corporate sector. He was going back to Kota in a day and his
heart wrenched at the thought of it even.
He saw the waves lapping against the
shoreline. He noticed how eager they were to reach the shoreline as if each
wave was competing against the other to reach the shore first and ultimately
they did.
"So Mr.
Choudhary?" abrupted a voice.
He woke up
from his sweet reminiscence and saw the
prospective buyer sitting in front of him with a grin across his face. Shivaji
signed the paper and the deal was closed. He was to supply Behatke t-shirts and
sweatshirts to this company. Be eager, be
hatke!, thought he.
